So much for being hopeful

One of the bad things I have built up over the years (I fail to agree that I was born with it, for that matter I believe I was born with nothing) is this stubbornness of not giving up, particularly hope. It is good to have faith and be hopeful, but this is different. Being in a state of denial, not accepting the truth and hoping for something "amazing" isn't too bright, either.

As a good friend said, "life is only as dramatic as we make it", I might need to think about what I need, and work on separating it from what I want.

Gaming can be fun

I've been playing Assassin's Creed for a while now, and I'd rate it as the best game I've ever played (well, to be honest, this is a highly subjective claim; some of my friends didn't like the game at all). This gave me an idea for next year's halloween :-) . Oops! should fix that emoticon, this is better <|-) .

Post-Halloween

Halloween turned out to be quite a laughing affair. The 48 hours spent at Asad's place had enough incidents to recollect and laugh about for months to come. I still haven't got hold of all the snaps from the event, so I am not uploading any at the moment.

After a week of thinking and imaging, my choice of character was decided within 15 seconds at Party City. I dressed myself as a Grim Reaper. However, instead of the traditional skeletal appearance for the reaper (with a skull mask), I followed a more contemporary approach.
  • A reaper's business is a serious one, so he should be dressed formally. Hence a dark suit.
  • A reaper has to be old, almost dead looking. Hence, a dead face make up.
  • With such a busy job, he must be tired and weary. A dark eyeshadow, giving the appearance of dark circles, did the job.
  • However, given his appearance, he cannot show his face amongst common folk. A cloak and hood from walmart helped with that.
  • Don't forget the tools! A scythe, from party city, came in handy.

Halloween

Halloween is around the corner and I am thinking of doing something this time. The only problem ... well, I don't have any ideas for costumes and I don't intend to buy one (they rarely fit well and there is hardly any fun in buying one).

So ... any ideas ? Here are some things I came up with (some might not be original) :
  1. BSOD/Kernel Panic: Interesting. Geeky. Something that few people would understand.
  2. Robin Hood: 'Ah' to being a fan of old school heroes (make it "older" school).
  3. 404 Not Found: What scares us, hypowebiacs, the most.
  4. Windows v8: I have some interesting ideas here, but I need to think more.

Any other ideas ?

Life, World and Immortality ...

Was watching The Man From Earth for Nth time, yesterday, with a good friend. I had been asking this question of a lot of people - "If you could live forever, would you want to ?". The friend agreed with my opinion on this (I was surprised because this was the first time somebody agreed with what I felt about this), however, my opinion is very subjective on this matter. The fact that I am very attached to all the people I love and care about explains my views on this topic. However, thinking about it objectively, one has to realize that if everyone and everything you cared about, or were attached to, is transient with respect to you then, eventually, you will need to move on. However, it is easier said than done.

Still, if you did not age and lived forever, what would it be like ? Would you want it ? What would be your goals ? Can, under such circumstances, we be truly selfless ?

My first major gadget ...

I got my new cellphone today, a Nokia 5610 XpressMusic, and I was feeling a bit nostalgic about my iPod. I was quite crazy about it a few years ago, and then my brother bought one for me. It was a 5G with 30GB storage. Amazing device! Even today I relish it and it is, perhaps, my most prized device (after my car, of course). Four years ago I started writing a blog about it, but discontinued it because of the abundance of information on this topic. Here is the link to that blog.

A nice article on replacing inefficient windows softwares

I read this article on lifehacker a while back. Although I had already incorporated most of the suggested replacements, its still a good read.
